After she quit flying in 1954, Helm stayed active in the community – participating in such organizations as the Tucson Chapter of Ninety-Nines – a group created in 1929 by 99 women pilots, including Amelia Earhart – According to the airplane paperwork and the timeline of an article on the CAF Rise Above website, this WACO may have been her first airplane.

Captain Carl A. Overstreet
Flew the F-84G Thunderjet & was trained in dropping nuclear bombs and advanced in machine guns, bombs, and rockets. First pilot to fly a Lockheed U-2 Dragon Lady operational mission over Poland, East Germany and the then USSR as a CIA-contracted spy during the Cold War During the Cuban Missile Crisis Overstreet flew the RF-101 fighter-bomber, known as the “Voodoo.” Retired from the Air Force in 1964 as a Captain, having been awarded the Soldier’s Medal, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and three Air Medals
